A Greater Space

A collaborative exhibition with Bradley Mendels exhibited at Articulate Project Space Gallery in May 2022.

Exhibition Statement

At a time when borders are more present than ever, between countries, cities and people; the responsibility to overcome them rests at our feet. A Greater Space explores methods of physically reshaping the frame which merges the division of frame and artwork, allowing for a rethinking of the frame’s status.

Working with empty spaces, Bradley invites the audience to look past the boundaries of the frame and into themselves, as well as the physical landscape. He depicts his landscapes as the antitheses of the natural world; structured and orderly to highlight the chaos of the external.

In this body of work I focuses on the artist’s experience in space, exploring painting as a window between private and public spaces . The painting becomes the frame of a truth, which allows the frame to hold meaning within itself.

This exhibition also included the interactive performance titled Revealing the artist portrait , which I performed three times. This work required the audience’s participation asking them to reveal the portrait of the artist. In this performance I use erasure to empower the audience to make the artist visible to the world.

Unexpectedly the audience took the opportunity to use their creativity to erase through drawings and meanings. As a result the performance had a different outcome each time depending on the audience. Slide through the next series of images to see a few snapshots of processes and outcomes of the three performances.
