Make yourself at home

A Solo show at Woollahra Gallery 15th May-9th of June 2024

This body of work explores shared domestic spaces specific to the Woollahra Council area. At its centre is a contemporary representation from a photograph of the drawing room of St Brigid, as occupied by the Moulder family from 1913 to 1919. Interestingly, this is a painting of the very room in which this show was exhibited.

These paintings aim to capture the visual experience of being in these spaces from the artist’s personal human perspective. Felixe's process involved creating initial drawings from life within the homes studied.

By painting on Perspex, Rives introduces a self-reflexive element to the work, allowing viewers to assume a playfully spectral presence. Felixe's careful selection of colours expresses the warmth and liveliness of beloved homes, while faithfully retaining the essence of the spaces through meticulous reproduction of every detail and object present at the time.

This project aims to offer the public a new perspective on home spaces through a study of homes in the Woollahra Council area, spanning both past and present.
